Why is a raven like a writing desk?

Ah! The old riddle posed to Alice at the Mad Tea Party in Wonderland. She never did figure out the answer...but there is one!

Do you know? Why is a raven like a writing desk?

Why is a raven like a writing desk? The answer (if any) is not as important as the question and the setting it was being asked. It was all non-sensical. However, having said that, I think the best part of this riddle is how it has inspired so many to THINK, and so that is my answer, they are alike in that they both get us to think or ponder...often upon a midnight weary.

On a side note, one of the best things I've heard in this regard was a response by Aldous Huxley "because there is B in both and and an N in neither."

If you can think of an answer, it is will probably be correct! What an ingenious riddle!

I don't think that Carroll originally had an answer to this riddle, however, subsequently, came up with one. I could post it here, but then that would ruin the fun for everyone else! That is my theory....for now, I'm sticking with it! :)
